Subject: Security Reminder - Robbery/Assault Near Redlands Campus
Although this incident took place off campus and is within the jurisdiction of the Redlands Police Department, we feel the campus community will benefit by learning of the incident and being reminded of some safety tips.
At approximately 9:45 p.m. on August 1, 2015 a University of Redlands woman student reported being assaulted and robbed at her off-campus residence on Campus Ave., east of Grove St. An unknown male intruder entered through the unlocked front door, knocked the victim down, displayed a knife, and demanded the victim's car keys, which she provided. After a second physical altercation and a violent threat by the man, the student was able to flee out a window to a neighbor's house and call 911. The victim described the assailant as Hispanic, approximately six feet tall, wearing a long-sleeved red shirt, gloves, and a bandana covering his face. He was last seen driving west on Campus Ave. toward the University in the stolen gray Volkswagen Jetta, California license plate 6KZM222.
Redlands Police, with the assistance of Public Safety, immediately searched the area. The police investigation is continuing. Student Life will reach out to our student to offer support. If you have any information or questions about the incident, please contact Redlands Police at (909) 798-7633 or Public Safety at (909) 748-8888, or ext. 8888 from any campus phone.
As a reminder:
• Keep residence doors locked at all times, even when you are home.
• If confronted by a robber, give them the item(s) they demand.
• If assaulted, scream, yell, try to attract attention, and tell the assailant not to harm you.
• Avoid and immediately report any suspicious individual or activity to Public Safety.
Our highest priority remains the safety and security of our campus community. Any off-campus emergency should be reported to Redlands Police at 911.
