James F. Simms, School of Business

male student

I retired from the Marine Corps in June 2004 and soon began a new position, and long commute, at the VA Hospital in Long Beach. I joined the vanpool program and regularly spoke with one of my new co-workers, Georgia K. Scott. Georgia was an MBA student at the University of Redlands, Riverside Campus and spoke highly of the program and of the University’s reputation.

Consequently, another co-worker told me that veterans who served after 9/11 were eligible for new revised G.I. Bill benefits. I did a little research, applied and am now a graduate of the MA in Management program. I’ve also been recently promoted to VA Contract Specialist and now report to a new supervisor—Georgia K. Scott (who also just got promoted).

We have a productive working relationship and personal relationship that I am proud of. I thank Georgia and the University of Redlands for the roles they played in this accomplishment.
