CDIS 2011 graduates

APPPLICATION PROCESS: Please read the entire page prior to calling our office to ensure that your question and answer is not already listed here. 

The Department of Communicative Disorders invites you to apply to our graduate program in Speech-Language Pathology. We are using the CSDCAS Online Centralization Application Process for admittance into the Fall 2012 semester. CSDCAS is a state-of-the-art, web-based application that offers applicants a convenient way to apply to multiple clinical education programs in Audiology and Speech Language Pathology by completing one single application. The on-line application was specifically designed for your ease and convenience. With far less paperwork, streamlined processing, and ongoing communication with applicants, CSDCAS offers you the ability to apply to multiple programs across the country with a single click of your mouse.

Deadline: The deadline to apply is January 15.  You must have all of your application materials to CSDCAS by that date or your application will not be reviewed. 

University Requirements for all Communicative Disorders graduate program applicants:

  • Please send a $40.00 application fee to our department so a file will be started for you. Complete this form and send with a check or money order made payable to the University of Redlands to:

  • GPA- Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.0 to apply.
  • GRE-You must take the GRE with time enough for us to recieve the scores by Janaury 15. When you register for the GRE use school code of 4848 so the scores will come directly to us. You do not need to send CSDCAS your GRE score report. We need your scores by Janaury 15, 2012.
  • Letters of Recommendation- Your three letters of recommendation will be done via CSDCAS portal. For instructions please create an account with CSDCAS. We need at least two submissions from professors. The other letter may be from a professor, supervisor, or someone else who can comment on your ability to be a successful graduate student.  We do not need more than three letters.
  • Essay- Your essay will also be submitted via CSDCAS. The two essay questions are:
    • In 500 words or less: (500 total; not for each question)
      1. Describe the type of setting (s) you see yourself working in as a speech-language pathologist, or the type of clients that seem to interest you the most. Tell us why you feel this way.
      2. Describe in detail what makes you unique as a prospective graduate student and a potential contributor to this profession. Use examples from your experience in academics, research, volunteerism, cultural diversity, and work opportunities. 
  • Transcripts- You must request to have an official set of all your transcripts sent to CSDCAS for processing.  From each college, university, or community college, please have the registrar's office send an official transcript sent directly to CSDCAS from your registrar's office to the following address:
  • Resume- The resume portion is part of the online application.

NOTE: We know your fall grades may not be posted until early January so you may have to resend another transcript as soon as grades are posted if you want those grades to be calculated in your GPA.  

International Students- In addition to the requirements listed above, you must send CSDCAS your transcript evaluation which has been evaluated by IERF or WES. You must also take and submit the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) scores or the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) or the Pearson Test of English (PTE). Passing scores are as follows:

    • At least a 90 or better on the TOEFL
    • At least an 8.0 on the IELTS
    • At least 80 on the PTE
      • Please make sure you take the exam in time for CSDCAS to receive the scores.
      • If you are admitted, you will be required to submit a financial statement. Your application can be reviewed by the department without your financial statement. However, before enrolling at Redlands, non U.S. citizens must show proof of financial resources to cover the expenses of the program (minimum of U.S. $41,000) If funding for a degree program is provided by a sponsoring agency, please include a letter from that agency indicating the amount of support that will be furnished. If funding is from a personal source, please send a certified bank statement showing activity in the account for the past six months.
