Servicemembers Opportunity College Information

In accordance with Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges (SOC) requirements, the University of Redlands is committed to both the spirit and the letter of the SOC agreement for active duty servicemembers. Additionally, we recognize that active servicemembers may be called up or relocated on short notice, and that reservists and National Guard members may be activated and deployed, and should not be penalized.

SOC Membership Criterion 2, Academic Residency Requirements states: "A SOC Consortium institution limits academic residency requirements for active duty servicemembers to no more than 25 percent of the undergraduate degree program; recognizes all credit course work offered by the institution as applicable in satisfying academic residency requirements; and allows servicemembers to satisfy academic residency requirements with courses taken from the institution at any time during their program of study, specifically avoiding any 'final year' or 'final semester' residency requirement, subject to stated requirements in specific courses such as majors."

As such, the University of Redlands agrees to comply with SOC Membership Criterion 2 which limits academic residency for active-duty servicemembers to no more than twenty-five percent of the degree requirements for all undergraduate degree programs, and to waive final-year residency requirements. Transferred coursework must be from accredited institutions and in compliance with the University’s transfer credit policies. Servicemembers are urged to verify, with the University of Redlands, that each course will be recognized as the equivalent and satisfy the course and credit hour expectations for the purpose of satisfying academic program and degree requirements.

The University has a long tradition of encouraging and supporting study abroad.

More than 47 percent of Redlands undergraduates participate in study abroad programs.
