Subject: Safety Bulletin: Assault adjacent to campus
On September 29, 2013, at approximately 1 a.m., three University of Redlands students were walking on Grove Street near Colton Avenue, adjacent to the orange trees that separate Grove Street from the Hedco parking lot when they were physically assaulted by three or four teenaged suspects. The suspects came out of the area of the orange trees and walked past the students on Grove Street before turning around and striking the two male students in the face without any warning. The suspect then stole the cellular phone from one of the injured students before fleeing the area. The only description of the attackers was one of the suspects was believed to be a Hispanic teenaged male wearing a red baseball cap. The Redlands Police Department responded to the area and conducted an investigation of the incident.
As a precautionary measure, students are reminded to walk in groups and use well lit pathways on the interior of the campus during periods of darkness.
