Subject: Safety Bulletin – Suspicious Individuals on Campus
On Sunday, March 24, 2013, a student reported two suspicious males attempting to enter North Hall. The student challenged these individuals and denied them entry into the Hall. The student quickly reported the situation to the Department of Public Safety and Officers immediately responded, locating the individuals near Merriam Hall. While speaking with these individuals, Public Safety Officers determined they had been drinking alcohol, were not students and were from the San Bernardino area. One of the individuals possessed a large hunting knife concealed in his pants, and had two misdemeanor warrants for his arrest. The other individual had a razor type box cutter in his pocket. The Redlands Police Department was contacted and both individuals were arrested and removed from campus.
As a reminder, the University Community is urged to take precautions for your personal safety.
- Ensure outside doors to residence halls are secured when entering or leaving.
- Do not allow non-students to follow you into your residence hall.
- Be aware of your surroundings when walking on or off campus.
- Immediately report any suspicious persons or activities to Public Safety.
