Subject: Safety Bulletin – Recent Burglary Suspect on Campus
On Sunday, March 17, 2013, the Redlands Police Department followed a burglary suspect towards the University of Redlands, on Campus Drive from Church Street in the city of Redlands.The suspect eventually entered onto the University campus where he was observed by Public Safety Officers as he walked towards the Orton Center through the parking lot between Merriam Hall and North Hall.As Redlands Police Officers attempted to contact the suspect he ran past Lewis Hall and appeared to leave the campus running between Hedco Hall and Appleton Hall.As a precautionary measure, a search of Lewis, Hedco, Appleton, and Gregory Halls was conducted which concluded that the suspect had not entered any University building, nor did he have any contact with University students, staff, faculty or guests.Department of Public Safety Officers and the Redlands Police Department immediately determined that there was no threat to the University Community from this suspect.
The suspect was described as a Hispanic male, 25-30 years old, medium to muscular build, dark, shoulder length hair, wearing a black tank top and blue jeans.The suspect also had several tattoos on his arms and shoulders.
As a reminder, the University Community is reminded to take precautions for your personal safety.
- Ensure outside doors to residence halls are closed and locked when entering or leaving.
- Be aware of your surroundings when walking on or off campus.
- Lock your vehicle when it’s parked and do not store items of value in plain sight.
- Immediately report any suspicious persons or activities to Public Safety.
