DESCRIPTION: Reporting to the Provost and Chief Academic Officer, the Assistant Provost for Institutional Research is responsible for research and data gathering for internal and external audiences, and participates in research and analysis in institution-wide planning, assessment, program evaluation, retention and graduation studies, and student satisfaction and educational effectiveness reviews.

  • Works with Senior Management providing evidence-based decision support for strategic planning and initiatives, including accreditation.  
  • Provides support and leadership for curricular and co-curricular assessment and educational effectiveness efforts.  
  • Manages statistical reporting internally and externally.  Completes and maintains files for external surveys and completes external surveys including IPEDS, U.S. News, Princeton, Cambridge, NCAA, etc.
  • Supports development and maintenance of data architecture, data management standards, and Datatel dictionary for institutional research and operational use.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree required. Position requires a minimum of three years of progressively responsible work in institutional research. Successful candidate will have proven computational, statistical, and analytical skills; strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills; demonstrated leadership, supervision, and management ability.  Must possess the ability to analyze, interpret, and make inferences about data, as well as the ability to communicate the results of data analysis to a variety of audiences, including Senior Management and the Board of Trustees.  Must possess the ability to work with multiple software packages, including spreadsheets, word-processing and various statistical applications (e.g., SPSS), along with experience creating and maintaining databases, reports and queries.  Ability to present qualitative and quantitative information in a user-friendly manner and ability to work effectively under demands associated with multiple deadlines are essential. Experience with database technology and client/server computing, preferably Datatel Colleague; data warehousing (archiving). Strong knowledge of federal definitions and higher education requirements for student groups is required. University, college, or non-profit experience is preferred.
