DESCRIPTION:  The University of Redlands seeks a Visiting Professor (Open-Rank) for a one-year, renewable visiting faculty position in Geodesign. As a member of the MS GIS Program faculty, the successful candidate will have four initial objectives:

  1. Modify existing MS GIS curricula to support a design team approach to spatial problem solving; 
  2. Create and teach Geodesign courses within the MS GIS Program and undergraduate Spatial Studies minor; 
  3. Build a model undergraduate curriculum; and
  4. Consult and contribute to geodesign projects accomplished by the University of Redlands spatial community.

This position has a three-year term, renewable each year based on satisfactory performance. Extension beyond the initial three-year term is dependent on several factors, including the success of the Geodesign program and the availability of funding.

MININUM QUALIFICATIONS: A doctorate or terminal master’s in landscape architecture, urban planning and design, or closely related field is required. The candidate must be proficient in using GIS and related technologies for their design projects/research, and have demonstrated excellence in design studio teaching at graduate and undergraduate levels. Additionally, the candidate will demonstrate proficiency in using GIS technology for project-based learning with undergraduate and graduate students.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: The ideal candidate will have experience in design and studio teaching methods at the graduate and undergraduate levels. A background in academic program development and marketing; student recruitment; geodesign client development and management; and strategic planning is highly desired. The candidate should be an entrepreneur who has a genuine interest in working with diverse stakeholders to create a highly visible and successful academic program in Geodesign.
