ANNOUNCEMENT OF FACULTY POSITION OPENING
POSITION: Full-time Economist
DEPARTMENT: School of Business
APPOINTMENT: Non Tenure Track, Faculty
POSTING DATE: October 25, 2013
APPLICATION DEADLINE: Until filled
DESCRIPTION: The Institute for Spatial Economic Analysis (ISEA, http://isea.redlands.edu ) at the University of Redlands seeks to hire a non-tenure track contract faculty position, full-time economist with a specialization in new economic geography, labor economics, or econometrics. The successful candidate will be working with a multi-disciplinary team of faculty (their fields include economics, logistics, HR, and marketing) and professional GIS staff to gain insight into the spatial dimension of the economy at all levels of geography. This requires active participation in ongoing research projects and maintaining the ISEA data infrastructure as well as incorporating research results into regularly published reports for general audiences. The size of the datasets we analyze requires a high degree of automation. Consequently, the largest share of the time will be spent on programming.
The typical candidate holds a master’s degree in economics or a related discipline and has actively participated in research projects (e.g., in pursuit of a dissertation project) or otherwise demonstrated ability to work in a self-directed and goal-oriented fashion on projects that require a substantial amount of programming. The position is limited to two years, with extension of the contract possible. We specifically encourage Ph.D. students who want to work in a professional research environment before completing their dissertation to apply. Salary depends on professional background and is competitive with comparable positions elsewhere.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidate must hold a master’s degree in economics or a related discipline. Strong programming skills in stata or R are required. Knowledge of any of the following is considered a plus: spatial statistics, geographic information systems (GIS), database management, other programming languages, and /or big data analytics.
TO APPLY: Please submit your application package electronically - c.v., three letters of recommendation or professional references, writing samples, program samples /project portfolio, to:
Karen Kraker (email@example.com).
Please direct all inquiries to: Dr. Johannes Moenius, Director of ISEA (firstname.lastname@example.org). Applications will be reviewed beginning November 15, but applications will be accepted until the position is filled. JEL classifications: A1, R0, J0, C1, C6, C8
