DESCRIPTION: Under the direction of the Associate Vice President of Information Technology & Facilities/CIO manages the Academic Computing & Instructional Technology Services team to work closely in collaboration with the academic deans and the Vice President for Academic Affairs to provide vision, leadership, and direction and planning for academic computing and instructional technology. Position serves as an advocate for the development and use of information technology in support of classroom instruction, distance and online education, and virtual classroom settings in instructional and educational technology. Oversee administrative units responsible for student and faculty technology services, principally the Fletcher Jones Computing Center to offer training and consulting services to faculty and students, distance/online learning services, instructional software access, e-mail, Internet services, and computer lab access on the main campus and at the regional centers.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Provides assistance to faculty and students by incorporating information technology in courses and research; assists faculty in developing web resources, incorporating web resources in classes, and developing effective pedagogical strategies using such resources; provides information technology support and training to faculty and students on campus high speed network system.
- Oversees the administration and maintenance of the Fletcher Jones Computing Center through centrally supported instructional applications, and computer labs on-campus and at regional centers; manages procurement and distribution of software application for computer labs and faculty access; oversees instructional application services and distance/online learning services; provides project management support for implementation of information technology projects and initiatives related to academic computing and instructional technology services unit.
- In a team approach involving all constituencies, develops budgets, plans and implements systems to provide high quality support for information technology resources and services for faculty and students; responsible for evaluating and approving all purchases of information technology supporting academic programs.
- Develops and maintains standards, policies and procedures, related to instructional technology and academic computing; assists in developing and implementing the information technology strategic and tactical plans; advises faculty and academic administration on technology planning, policy development and implementation; performs other related duties and projects as assigned or directed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Position requires Masters Degree, in Information Technology, Instructional Technology or closely related academic discipline, with a minimum of five to seven years of a combination of experience in positions of management in information technology, or related fields, to enhance learning in the liberal arts tradition in higher education environments. Ph.D. is preferred. The successful candidate will have in-depth knowledge of current and future trends in information technology specifically related to academic computing and instructional technology services with a thorough technical experience that includes the following: the Apple and Microsoft Windows Operating Systems using computers in a Web-based environment, Internet applications and search engines, distance and online learning application tools and a wide variety of multimedia peripherals. Finally, the successful candidate will have excellent written and oral communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, and a proven record of managing budgets and directing and motivating staff to deliver client-oriented services. The ideal candidate will possess experience working with diverse constituencies and sensitivity to multi-cultural issues; ability to work productively in a collaborative environment to meet deadlines. Must be able to competently interact with a culturally and ethnically diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.
