Professor of Theatre Arts


Christopher Beach is a professor of theater arts at the University of Redlands who can comment on performing arts topics.

His areas of expertise include dance, theater, varied approaches to acting and directing, commedia del’arte (a genre of theatrical performance), clown work and not-for-profit alternative community-based performing arts.

Prior to teaching at Redlands, Beach directed more than 60 productions on the stage. He has also been a stage and film actor in New York City, Boston and Los Angeles.

Outside of the university, he remains active in the performing arts community as the founder and artistic director of the Performance Loft, a venue for alternative arts programming in the Inland Empire.

In 2000, he received the Award for Excellence in Theater Education presented by the American College Theater Festival, Region VIII.

Beach has a master of fine arts in directing from UCLA and a bachelor of fine arts from Virginia Commonwealth University.

He began the University of Redlands’ theater arts department in 1993.
