School of Education Presents Erin Gruwell Film Screening, “Voices Unbound: The Story of the Freedom Writers”

(April 14, 2011) The University of Redlands School of Education will present a film screening with Erin Gruwell of “Voices Unbound: The Story of the Freedom Writers,” a new documentary that follows the progress of the Freedom Writers.

After the film, Gruwell will be on hand to answer questions. Copies of “The Freedom Writers Diary” will be available for sale in the lobby.

Who: Erin Gruwell is an educator and founder of Freedom Writers Foundation and subject of the “Freedom Writers” feature film. In January 2007, Paramount Pictures released “Freedom Writers,” starring two-time Oscar winner Hilary Swank as Gruwell. The film is based on “The Freedom Writers Diary,” the New York Times bestseller that chronicled Gruwell’s journey with 150 high school students who had been written off by the education system.

Where: Glenn Wallichs Theatre, University of Redlands

When: Wednesday, April 20, 2011. Film starts at 6 p.m. Seating begins at 5:30.
