Award-winning comedian and disabilities activist Josh Blue to speak at the University of Redlands
Josh Blue, an award winning comedian and disability activist, will talk about living with cerebral palsy, winning NBC’s “Last Comic Standing” and his work to raise awareness of disability issues during a presentation at the University of Redlands on Tuesday, Jan. 18.
Designed to coincide with MLK day on the 17th, the Tuesday program will begin at 7 p.m. in the Orton Center on the University of Redlands campus. Admission is free and open to the public.
Blue is a multi-talented writer, comedian and athlete who has garnered fans and accolades across the country. He has been a regular guest star on Comedy Central’s “Mind of Mencia” and his story has been featured on Fox, CBS, ABC and MSNBC. He was the first comedian to perform stand-up on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” was named Best Winning Reality Show Guest for his appearance on “Live with Regis and Kelly,” and made a standout guest appearance on Comics Unleashed.
Blue is also a repeat guest on nationally syndicated radio programs such as NPR’s “Talk of the Nation” and “The Mancow Show” and has been featured in numerous publications including People Magazine and The New York Times. On the Internet, his top two YouTube videos have approached 2 million plays.
“We are excited to be bringing Josh to the U of R,” says Leela MadhavaRau, Associate Dean at the University of Redlands, “His ability to demystify people with disabilities along with his unique performance style makes him a great artist.”
Blue’s visit to campus is co-sponsored by the University’s Office of Campus Diversity & Inclusion, the Chaplain’s Office, ASUR Executive Director of Inclusion, and the Ad Hoc Working Group on Disability Issues.
Despite an extensive schedule of stand-up tour dates, Blue maintains an active role on the U.S. Paralympic Soccer Team and competed in Athens at the Paralympic Games in 2004, the world’s second largest sporting event.
