University of Redlands School of Business in Torrance to Host
Southern California Business Ethics Roundtable

REDLANDS, CA– Southern California business leaders will explore ethical and effective leadership at a January 18 business roundtable event presented by the University of Redlands’ Banta Center for Business, Ethics, and Society at the University’s Torrance campus.

Business professionals are invited to share the dilemmas and practical issues facing their organizations and hear from ethics experts during the roundtable.

The event, which includes breakfast and discussion beginning at 9 a.m., will be moderated by Jeffery Smith, Director of the Banta Center, and will feature keynote speaker Joanne Ciulla, a professor, author and Washington Post columnist.

“Leadership at its heart must embrace and articulate the best of ethics,” said Smith. “No matter where you are in an organization, doing the right thing often requires taking a leadership role. I’m looking forward to a dynamic discussion about the relationship between leaders’ ethics and their ability to be effective on the job.”

Ciulla is visiting the campus in Torrance from her post as professor and Coston Family Chair in Leadership and Ethics at the University of Richmond’s Jepson School of Leadership Studies. She has held academic appointments at Harvard Business School, the Wharton School, and Oxford University and has held the UNESCO Chair in Leadership Studies at the United Nations International Academy in Jordan.

Ciulla has written extensively on leadership ethics, business ethics, and the philosophy of work. She recently published “Leadership at the Crossroads” and also writes a column for the Washington Post, “On Leadership.”

The complimentary continental breakfast begins at 9 a.m. with discussion to follow from 9:30 a.m.-11 a.m. in Suite 450 of the University of Redlands Torrance Campus at 19191 South Vermont Avenue.

The event is free and open to the public and reservations are required by Monday, Jan.17. They can be made by calling (909)748-8769 or by e-mail to Vanessa_siliezar@redlands.edu.

The Banta Center for Business, Ethics, and Society at the University provides a forum for the examination of ethical issues in corporate and professional life. It seeks to advance awareness of ethical problems and the ability to make ethical decisions by engaging in dialogue and instruction with practitioners and scholars from a broad range of fields and disciplines.
