Annual U of R Clothing Drive

Jan. 25, 2009 -

Members of the university community can clean out their closets or buy gently used clothing, while also benefiting area charitable organizations.

The 2009 Annual Campus-wide Clothing and Blanket Drive will be held Friday, Jan. 30 from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the basement of the administration building. The event is sponsored by the University of Redlands Staff Organization.

All clothes will be sold for $1 each, with proceeds benefiting A Step Up, as well as Mary’s Mercy Center and Veronica’s Home. A Step Up promotes the economic independence of low-income women by providing clothing for women rejoining the workforce.

Mary’s Mercy Center and Veronica’s Home were established to serve people in need of assistance, including women and children affected by domestic violence.

All items that are not purchased will be donated to the organizations.

A number of items are particularly needed, including suits that would be appropriate for job interviews, dresses and other basic professional accessories for women. Linens, blankets, men’s, children’s, teens, casual women’s clothing and shoes also are needed.

Last year, more than 100 bags of clothing, blankets and other items were donated to local organizations.
