Student Organizations Recognized for Service

Family Service Association of Redlands volunteer coordinator Nicholas Fisher ’08

Several University of Redlands student organizations were recognized for the amount of hours of community service that they dedicated to the Family Service Association of Redlands in 2009.

Among the many groups recognized were RYG, Mortar Board, MEChA and University of Redlands Alumni.

The awards ceremony was organized by recent alumnus and Family Service Association of Redlands volunteer coordinator Nicholas Fisher ’08. As he presented the awards, Fisher commented that everyone present was “a piece of a puzzle” emphasizing that “Family Service’s jobs would not be complete without all of the individual parts” that volunteers contribute as a part of each project.

The Family Service Association is dedicated to alleviating poverty, encouraging self-sufficiency, and promoting dignity of all people. With the help of their volunteers, the association is able to focus on helping families become more self-sufficient and preventing homelessness.

Redlands students, staff and alumni continue to embrace a legacy of service every day. Upcoming community service efforts include Redlands’ 3rd Annual Bulldogs in Service day and the 4th Annual Trip to New Orleans to build houses with Habitat for Humanity.
