Alumna Recognized as Outstanding Administrator

Dr. Rita Cavin was recently named Howard Cherry Outstanding Community College Administrator of the Year at Linn-Benton Community College in Oregon.

The award is given to individuals who bring statewide recognition to Oregon community colleges through their efforts.

For the past six years, Cavin has done just that and more, working alongside the college district’s legislators and testifying on behalf of community colleges during legislative sessions.

As current president of Linn-Benton Community College (LBCC), Rita has come a long way from her undergraduate years at Redlands.

After receiving her Bachelor of Arts in English from Redlands, Rita has led a highly successful academic career, completing additional degrees including a Master of Arts in English from the University of Redlands, a Master of Arts in library science from Immaculate Heart College, and a Ph.D. in higher education from Claremont Graduate School.

While also a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow, a member of Albany Rotary, Cavin is also involved with the board of the American Association of Community Colleges, the Executive Board of the Oregon Community College Association, the Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center Board, the Leadership Corvallis Board, and the Linn County Juvenile Drug Court Advisory Committee.

She is planning to retire from LBCC in January 2010, and the University of Redlands proudly wishes her the best.
