University Launches Alumni Facebook Fan Page
As interest in social networking and affinity pages continues to thrive, the university has moved to launch an official University of Redlands Alumni fan page on Facebook. Redlands hopes to offer the university community another opportunity to stay connected.
Facebook, one of the fastest-growing and well-known social networking sites on the internet, offers universities and businesses the opportunity to create on online presence with the use of "fan pages."
Alumni who are already members of Facebook have the capability to become "fans" of the page allowing them to view upcoming alumni events, stay connected with fellow classmates, share pictures and videos, post online class notes and receive Facebook email updates from the university.
"Facebook allows the university numerous possibilities for cross-marketing and puts us on the radar of a growing population of alumni and friends who live their daily lives through the internet. This is where they socialize, find information, plan their schedules and share photos," said Assistant Director of Alumni Relations Andrea Anthony.
With a strong presence on Facebook, the university hopes to provide a better forum for alumni to be able to do all of these things while also driving them back to the university's web site.
"Current, fresh information will be the key to continually capture the interest of this market and we are excited to make this happen," said Anthony.
University alumni don't have to be members of Facebook to view the page. If they choose not to create a Facebook profile, they will still be able to view information about university events, but won't be able to participate in discussions or share their information with other classmates.
