This month, the community will admire the Greek Islands through the eyes of artist Carol Appleton.

The University of Redlands art department is proud to present the former first lady’s paintings and photographs in her first art show at the university.

“I paint and photograph the impact of intense light and the shadows that result. The paintings and photographs in this show have been inspired by the dramatic, almost blinding, light cast on the white geometric buildings of the Cycladic Greek Islands,” said Appleton.

Join the university community for a Greek-inspired opening reception, which will be held Friday, Oct. 9 from 6 – 8 p.m. in Peppers Art Gallery.

Appleton’s pieces will be on display through Nov. 7. The gallery is open on Tuesdays thru Fridays from 1 p.m.-5p.m. and on Saturdays and Sundays from 2 p.m.-5p.m. For more information call 909-748-8360.

There are more than 1,700 trees on the University of Redlands campus.

In April 2010, it was designated a Tree Campus USA by the Arbor Day Foundation. Redlands is among just three other colleges or universities in California to receive this designation.
