Chapel Bells Ringing Again

Bells

An old tradition is back at the University of Redlands: on weekdays at 8 a.m., noon, and 6 p.m. the Chapel bells will ring out across campus.

The bells stopped ringing after the Centennial celebration in 2007. According to Peter Tupou with the Chaplain’s Office, they malfunctioned, and would ring every hour for close to five minutes.

“It got on the nerves of a lot of professors in Watchorn and Fine Arts, and students at 6 a.m. when they were trying to sleep,” he said.

Now that the problem has been solved, the campus community can enjoy the bells again, which play the University’s Alma Mater.

“Everyone I’ve talked to loves it,” Tupou said.
