Pokorny Low Brass Seminar recognized by major journals

Seminar is featured by the International Trombone Association and International Tuba Euphonium Association Journals

REDLANDS, Feb. 25, 2014 – The University of Redlands School of Music’s Pokorny Low Brass Seminar is garnering attention from well-respected journals in the industry. The seminar, now in its seventh year, was featured in the Fall 2013 International Tuba Euphonium Association Journal and most recently, it graced the cover of the International Trombone Association Journal. The annual Pokorny Low Brass Seminar will take place at the University of Redlands campus from June 29- July 3, 2014.

Unlike many festival type opportunities, the Pokorny Low Brass Seminar is an intense workshop for low brass players to engage a wide range of musical, stylistic, technical and professional issues in-depth with unprecedented access to some of the most respected low brass players.

The musicians instructing at the workshop include:
Gene Pokorny, tuba, Chicago Symphony Orchestra
Mike Roylance, tuba, Boston Symphony Orchestra
Timothy Higgins, principal trombone, San Francisco Symphony Orchestra
Randall Hawes, bass trombone, Detroit Symphony
Andrew Glendening, trombone, Dean, University of Redlands School of Music
Scott Sutherland, tuba, University of Redlands and Presidio Brass

The seminar is well-suited for professional symphony musicians, free-lancers, college teachers, graduate and undergraduate music majors, advanced high school students and dedicated amateurs. To apply as a performer, complete the application and submit a one-page resume and a recording of two contrasting solo passages and five standard orchestral excerpts by April 1, 2014. Auditors only need to submit the application form.

New this year is the Pre-College Program for high school low brass players. The Pre-College Program participants will attend all of the talks and concerts, but will have a special set of master classes designed specifically for younger players. The Pre-College Program runs June 28 through July 3, 2014.
