Winter Break 2013 Closures

With winter break approaching, students and staff need to be aware of closures on campus.

Students must be out of their residence halls by 10 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 15.

“The key cores to all of the buildings are changed over the break, so students are not able to enter,” Leslie Krafft, associate director of Residence Life and Housing, said. “They do not have to move out of their rooms, but they must take everything they will need for the whole month with them. If they forget something, it is up to Public Safety whether or not they will let someone in to a building to pick up forgotten belongings.”

The apartments and organization houses will remain open over break, with CA staff at the apartments full time. California-Founders Halls are reserved for vacation housing, with students who need to stay on campus moving in between 10 a.m. and noon Sunday, Dec. 15.

Residence halls will re-open on Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014 at 1 p.m.

“Students living in Cal-Founders during the break will move over that morning so those rooms will be clear in time for returning students to move back in,” Krafft said. “Any student who is switching from one room to another at the semester must be moved before they leave in December, as all open spaces will be used to house incoming new students or students returning from abroad and must be cleaned and prepared for those students’ move-in.”

According to Krafft, while the deadline to sign up for vacation housing has passed, students can inquire about any potential openings by calling Kim Morris in Student Life.

Other closures and limited hours:

Armacost Library will be closed Dec. 25 to Jan. 1, 2014, and open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. until Jan. 13.

Food service will end at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 14, and will resume at 5 p.m. Jan. 12, 2014.

This is the last issue of Bulldog Bites for 2013. Bulldog Bites will resume publication on Monday, Jan. 6, 2014.
