Silent Movie Night

Organ

This Homecoming, a silent film classic won’t be so quiet.

Starting at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, renowned silent film accompanist Bob Salisbury will play the Memorial Chapel’s historic Casavant pipe organ alongside Buster Keaton’s “College.” This event is free and open to the public.

“This has become an annual event,” Brad Andrews, director of music admissions with the School of Music, said. “It’s pretty well attended. In this region, there’s a big organ following, and there are a number of students that attend. It’s really a great event.”

Each year, Salisbury selects the film that he will accompany. This year’s film is from 1927, which is the same year that the Casavant organ came to Redlands.

“This is a chance to see a great movie and hear one of the great organists of our time,” Andrews said. “This is his specialty, and this is perfect for a movie fan or an organ fan.”
