Best selling author and religion scholar to speak
at the University of Redlands on Oct. 22

Dr. Reza Aslan will address the topics of Islam, Muslim Americans and Islamophobia

REDLANDS, Oct. 11, 2013–The University of Redlands Campus Diversity and Inclusion will host Dr. Reza Aslan, an internationally acclaimed writer and scholar of religions at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013 at the University of Redlands Memorial Chapel. A book signing will follow the speech and books will be available for sale. The event is free and open to the public.

In his lecture, Reza Aslan will address the topics of Islam, the Middle East and Muslim Americans with authority, wit and an infectious optimism. Aslan speaks for a young generation of Muslims–socially conscious, politically active and technologically savvy–who fight for democratic reform.

Aslan’s most recent book "Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth" rocketed to #1 on the New York Times bestseller list. Aslan is the founder of, an online journal for news and entertainment about the Middle East and the world and Co-Founder and Chief Creative Officer of BoomGen Studios, the premier entertainment brand for creative content from and about the greater Middle East. Aslan was born in Iran, lives in Los Angeles and is an associate professor of creative writing at the University of California, Riverside.

His first book is the international bestseller, "No god but God: The Origins, Evolution and Future of Islam," has been translated into thirteen languages and was named by Blackwell Publishers as one of the 100 most important books of the last decade.

However, that interview allowed many more people to understand why we would invite such an articulate scholar to speak on Islam, the Middle East and Islamophobia. We encourage the community to participate in this event, knowing that Reza’s presence will spark increased dialogue and critical thinking amongst those in attendance.”
