Believe Walk 2013

Thurber

Join your fellow Bulldogs as we again move our paws for the cause in the 6th Annual Believe Walk through Redlands Oct. 6 to raise money for the fight against cancer.

Bulldogs Believe, and the University plans to show it with a team of walkers many Bulldogs strong.  Becoming part of the University team is just a click away at Bulldogs Believe, where you can join the team as a walker, sponsor a walker, or both. A limited number of sponsorships will be available.

The first 200 participants to register for the University team will receive a free bright pink T-shirt declaring this year’s Bulldog team slogan, “Bulldogs Believe: Moving Paws for the Cause,” inspired by alum Lindsay Stansberry through a Facebook contest.

Vice President and Dean of Student Life Char Burgess said she is excited that this year the University’s fall break doesn’t conflict with the Believe Walk.¬† “So we anticipate a large number of students and employees being able to participate.¬† Along the route we plan to provide some entertainment using University talent and make a significant maroon and grey statement that ‘Bulldogs Believe’!”

The walk begins at 8 a.m. on State Street with encouraging words from organizers and an enthusiastic send off to all walkers, and ends at the Redlands Bowl with a “Believe Bash.” Both 5K and 10K routes can be walked.

As our Bulldog mascot Thurber already knows, this is a dog-friendly event and participants are encouraged to bring their canine companions. A “Bark & Believe” booth on State Street will be offering doggie goodies and waste bags.

Half of all men and one-third of all women in the United States will develop cancer during their lifetimes. Today about 11 million people in the U.S. have had some type of cancer. Since 2008, $1.7 million dollars raised through the Believe Walk has been donated to cancer fighting organizations in this region, including Redlands Community Hospital and Loma Linda University Cancer Center.
