Bulldog Youth Sports Camp

Bulldog Youth Sports Camp

The Annual Bulldog Youth Sports Camp for boys and girls ages 8-14 offers three sessions starting June 10, 17 and 24 at the Currier Gym.

The variety of sports offered this summer include soccer, tennis, baseball, softball and basketball, as well as swimming at the Thompson Aquatic Center at the University.

All sports will be taught by 18-20 coaches from the Bulldog Athletics. The cost is $135 for each child per session and includes a T-shirt, snacks and instruction.

“I became involved as the director of the program when I was asked along with our former soccer coach, Rob Becerra, to start a youth sports camp during the summer,” Geoff Roche, director of the BYSC and head tennis coach, said. Roche has seen it grow from a one week session averaging 35 children to three sessions averaging 115 children. He said the best part is seeing the relationships develop with the campers and their families over the years.

“We have seen many of the kids who at one time were campers starting out in their first camp at age 7-8, grow up, graduate from high school, and come to attend the University of Redlands as students,” he said.

Some scholarships are available. Space is limited and the application and payment deadline is June 1. For more information on how to apply please visit www.goredlands.com or email Geoff Roche at geoff_roche@redlands.edu.

In April 2010, it was designated a Tree Campus USA by the Arbor Day Foundation. Redlands is among just three other colleges or universities in California to receive this designation.
