Mariam Tressler '13
Mariam Tressler '13 is a parent, a veteran, a member of the business world, and a soon-to-be University of Redlands graduate.
The mother of three – all of her daughters are either in college or about to start – lives in Corona and attended School of Business classes at the Riverside campus.
“It accommodated my work schedule,” Tressler said. “I was a working adult supporting a family. The University of Redlands has such a rich history and a great curriculum, so I knew the School of Business would be good for me.”
Tressler joined the armed forces after high school, enrolling in the United States Marines Corps. She started her family soon after, but never stopped attending school.
“I always went to a local community college with a dream to one day finish my undergraduate degree,” she said. “Literally after 20 years of going to a community college, I was able to look into transferring to a university. My oldest daughter is getting her MBA at the University of Redlands, and she told me to look into what the school had to offer.”
Tressler made a call, met with an adviser, and was admitted within a few months. Her transcripts from community college and the military were sent over, and she enrolled as a junior in the fall of 2011.
“It’s all been positive,” she said. “I’ve been in the business sector a little over 10 years, and learned a lot in class that I wish I had known 20 years ago to apply to my career. The curriculum was something I enjoyed, and the staff was amazing, from the instructors to the advisers. I felt like I had a team behind me encouraging me and helping get me to where I am today, which is graduating with my bachelor’s degree in business.”
Tressler, who was also inducted into the Whitehead Leadership Society, is ready to use her degree to reach higher ranks in the company she works for.
“It’s already helped me grow as a person,” she said. “I intend to start a personal development plan and continue to grow professionally.”
