Atlanta-based artist Kevin Cole will visit the University of Redlands April 1 to 4, 2013 spending much of his time interacting with art students and later giving a presentation on his book, Straight From The Soul.

Cole’s work – which includes sculpture, printmaking and drawings – deals with social history and the journey of African-Americans in the United States.

“He is a friend of mine, and we’ve worked together on different projects,” said Raul Acero, professor and chair of the art department at the University of Redlands. “I’ve followed his work, and we usually have an artist come out every year, so this year it’s Kevin.”

Cole will meet one-on-one with seniors, giving them insight into life as a working artist.

“We usually ask our visiting artists to meet with our graduating senior art students,” Acero said. “They meet and the artist gives them individual critiques and feedback on their work.”

At 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 3, Cole will give a visual presentation on Straight From The Soul in Ann Peppers Hall Room 128, and will also share information on his work and career and participate in a question and answer session.

“This is open to the public, and light refreshments will be served afterwards,” Acero said. “We want everyone to come out.”

Students who wish to interact further with Cole are invited to call the art department to set up a lunch meeting with the artist. For more information, call 909-748-8360.
