New Endowed Chair of Global Business at University of Redlands

REDLANDS, Feb. 7, 2013 – The University of Redlands announces the appointment of Walter Hutchens, M.A., as the new Endowed Chair of Global Business. In this new position supported by a generous gift from longtime University of Redlands benefactors Rich and Ginnie Hunsaker, Hutchens will teach courses in global business and develop external connections for University of Redlands students, including internships, guest speakers, case studies, and employment opportunities. Hutchens is a professor in the department of Business Administration and Accounting in the College of Arts and Sciences. He began the position on January 7.

Hutchens comes to Redlands with ten years of successful higher education teaching experience at the University of Washington, Whitworth University, and the University of Maryland. He has taught and administered educational programs in China and worked in Bejing as a corporate lawyer. Hutchens holds a B.A. in History from Samford University and a J.D. and M.A. in East Asian Studies from Washington University.
According to David Fite, vice president for academic affairs at The University of Redlands, Hutchens is highly regarded as a teacher and has a reputation for creativity and academic rigor. Fite said that Hutchens has taught successfully on both the undergraduate levels across a wide variety of courses in global business, business law, and business, government, and society.

“In his position as Endowed Chair of Global Business, Walter Hutchens will bring wide-ranging experience and passionate commitment to the development of broadly educated, articulate, young leaders who are globally savvy and well-positioned to contribute to the global polity and economy of the 21st century,” Fite said.

The University’s Global Business Program, directed by Jack Osborn, prepares students for careers in international business, public and not-for-profit service, and graduate study in disciplines such as law, business, finance, and government. Global Business students frequently receive highly competitive internships and awards for international study and exploration, including six prestigious Fulbright scholarships won by Global Business students in the last five years.
