GIS Speaker Series

Center for Business GIS and Spatial Analysis Speaker Series

Dr. Carsten Lange will speak on a new web–based GIS application aimed at assisting prospective homebuyers

The University of Redlands Center for Business GIS and Spatial Analysis continues its Speaker’s Bureau series on December 5, Join us as Dr. Carsten Lange speaks about Home Purchase Planner: A web-based GIS application to assist home buyers find a location that fits needs and budget. The event is free to the public and will take place at the Casa Loma Room at University of Redlands.

The application is based on a hedonic econometric model that applies spatial analysis. One of the unique benefits of the House Purchase Planner is that it estimates how much amenities (number of bedrooms, school quality and distance to beach etc.) contributed to the estimated purchasing price. This helps home buyers to have a full understanding of what exactly determines the price.
Carsten Lange is an economist with research and teaching interests in International Economics, Monetary Economics, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Real Estate economics. He has a Ph.D. from the University of Hannover, Germany and is a professor at the Department of Economics at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. He had also been a visiting professor and a visiting scholar at University of Sofia, Bulgaria, Applied University Schmalkalden, Germany, University of California, San Diego, and Florida State University, Tallahassee. Dr. Lange has published three books and several refereed articles.
