2012-2013 Memorial Chapel Organ Recital Series

- In the summer of 2012 significant additions were made to the magnificent Memorial Chapel organ by the original builder, Casavant Freres of Canada. Come hear the exciting new sounds at any one of these four upcoming events!

WHAT: Memorial Chapel Organ Series

WHO: Robert Salisbury, Performer
Annual Silent Movie Night

Before the “talkies” began, movies were accompanied by organ improvisations that enhanced what was seen on the screen. Robert Salisbury, considered by many to be the “dean of theater organists”, is famous for his artistry in this genre. This will be the fourth year he has been presented here, and the feature film this year will be the “It Girl” featuring the legendary actress Clara Bow.

Upcoming Organ Series Events

"What’s New?" with Frederick Swann - Sunday, October 28, 3:00 p.m.
Frederick Swann has enjoyed a more than 65 year career as an internationally known performing and recording organist. He is artist teacher of Organ and University Organist at the University of Redlands. During this recital he will demonstrate the recent additions made to the Memorial Chapel organ in a “show and hear” session, as well as a wide range of repertory utilizing various combinations.

Ken Cowan - Sunday, January 27, 3:00 p.m.
Ken Cowan is one of North America’s most celebrated concert organists. Praised for his dazzling artistry, impeccable technique and imaginative programming by audiences and critics alike, he maintains a rigorous performing and recording schedule which takes him to major concert venues in America, Canada, Europe, and Asia. He is currently Associate Professor and head of the organ program at Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music in Houston, Texas.

Richard Elliott - Sunday, March 17, 3:00 p.m.
Richard Elliott is Principal Organist of the Mormon Tabernacle in Salt Lake City, and is heard frequently on the TV and radio broadcast of Music and the Spoken Word with the Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square. He is widely recognized as one of the foremost concert organists in America, and his wide-spread reputation for programming excellence has created large audiences wherever he plays.
