Commencement 2012
1987
- James R. Appleton becomes the eighth president of the University of Redlands.
1988
- President Appleton is inaugurated in April.
1989
- The first balanced budget in several years is created.
- The first comprehensive development campaign is run.
1991
- Hedco Foundation grant endows a chair in environmental studies, which helps to launch the Environmental Studies program.
1992
- The Director of Race and Ethic Studies is established.
1993
- The comprehensive development campaign is successfully completed.
1994
- The Hunsaker Center is dedicated.
- Bulldog softball field.
- Community service becomes a requirement for graduation.
1996
- A new, 13-lane NCAA regulation pool is dedicated.
1997
- The old wooden sign is removed to make way for the new McGregor gateways.
1998
- The $4 million chapel renovation campaign kicks off.
1999
- Faculty Diversity Initiative is launched as an effort to expand diversity within the faculty. This resulted in the hiring of six faculty of color.
2000
- Reconstruction of Whitehead College to become the schools of Business and Education begins.
- Hedco Hall and Gregory Hall are dedicated in the Stauffer Complex for Science, Mathematics and Environmental Studies.
2001
- University enrollment breaks the 2000 mark.
- Salzburg Facility renovation is started in May, to be re-opened in January 2002.
2002
- The 6,800 square-foot state-of-the-art fitness center is opened.
2003
- Cassavant Restoration
- The academic calandar changes from a 4-1-4 semester schedule to a 4-4-1 semester schedule, creating May Term.
2004
- The Center for Business Ethics and Society is established.
- University endowment surpasses $100 Million.
- Centennial Campaign announces the university's most ambitious fundraising campaign of $100 million.
- President Appleton announces his move to position of Chancellor.
2005
- Stauffer Science Complex Phase II Appleton Hall and Lewis Hall.
2010
- Dr. Appleton returns to the presidency of the University of Redlands.
- Leads University to financial recovery and renewal of future planning.
2011
- University of Redlands "Centennial Park" dedicated.
- Search for the 11th president of the University of Redlands announced.
