Appointment of Director of Military and Veterans Relations

May 7, 2012—As a commitment to its increasing military and veteran student population, University of Redlands has named Tana Sanderson to the newly created position of Director of Military and Veterans Relations. Sanderson will oversee the recruitment of military and veterans students in the School of Business, School of Education, and Continuing Studies.

“I am honored to accept this position as we expand our service to those who have served for us,” said Sanderson. “With increasing numbers of returning service members entering college, the need to address their particular requirements is critical,” Sanderson added.

More than 250 military and veteran students attend University of Redlands. Many military and veterans applicants are finding the University of Redlands a good match for their academic goals.

The University is among the top 15 percent of schools nationally for veterans of the armed forces according to G.I. Jobs magazine, which named the school to its list of 2012 Military Friendly School.

Redlands is VA approved, has regional accreditation and gives ACE credit for military training and experience. It offers tuition discounts to active duty military students. It allows military students called to active services the opportunity to return to school without penalty and participates in the Yellow Ribbon Program. Yellow Ribbon Awards provide a $5,000/$10,000 award with government match for tuition. To be eligible, veterans have to be Chapter 33 with 100% eligibility.

“For returning military veterans, many with families and a need to return to full-time employment, our evening degree programs in business and education, combined with their Yellow Ribbon funding option make it truly possible for them to consider furthering their education,” said Nancy Svenson, Associate Vice President of Enrollment Management.

According to Sanderson, “The University of Redlands’ basic tenets and core values of integrity, respect, honor, history, character, and service to others is in concert with the basic military doctrine.”
