Doug Hammett. A graduate of the University of Redlands, Doug’s piece for "Performing Identities" looks at coming out at Redlands. Doug comes from a background of painting, sculpture, and conceptual art with an MFA from Art Center College of Design. He blends his training in music/percussion with the world of color to create performance works for the stage. Theatre groups he has performed with include the Invisible Theater (Men’s Theater for Men), the CommiT (Camille Maurine’s Moving Theater), and Fauve Conspiracy with Rachel Rosenthal.
Leo Garcia is one of the most versatile theatre artists in Southern California. A nationally respected playwright, actor, filmmaker, director and producer, his plays have won major awards from the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Hispanic Media Coalition, Theatre Communications Group, and the Mark Taper Forum. In 2004, Leo was recognized by "Out Magazine" as one of the most interesting, influential, and newsworthy LGBT people. He has been an integral part of the Los Angeles alternative performing arts scene for many years, serving as Artistic Director of the legendary Highways Performance Space. Leo has mentored scores of young artists, passing on his dedication to diversity, new works, new forms, and the first amendment right to speak freely. Leo has created an original piece for the Glenn Wallichs Stage.
Master storyteller Dan Kwong has been presenting solo performances since 1989 often drawing upon his own life experiences to explore personal, historical and social issues. Of mixed Asian American heritage, his subjects include cultural confusion, Asian male identity, and discovery in a mixed heritage family. Dan has performed in the US, England, Hong Kong, Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia, China and Japan. He will be performing excerpts from "It's Great 2B an American" and other major pieces.
