Wind Ensemble Program for High School Students

Redlands, CA (August 18, 2011)—The University of Redlands School of Music is offering a new Youth Wind Ensemble program through the Community School of Music and the Arts designed to provide opportunity for musical growth and development for students ages 12 to 20.

Auditions will be held Saturday, Sept. 10 from 1 to 5 p.m. Prospective members should be prepared to perform major and chromatic scales, a prepared piece of their choice and sight reading.

Call CSMA at 909-748-8844 to reserve an audition time. Accepted students will be notified on Monday, Sept. 12.

Rehearsals for those accepted to the program will be on Sundays from 2 to 4 p.m. in the University Hall on the University of Redlands campus beginning on Sept. 18. They will continue until the fall concert on Sunday, Nov. 20. Parking is free and tuition is $75 per term.

The conductor and music director for the Youth Wind Ensemble will be Redlands High School Director of Bands James Benanti, with students and faculty from the School of Music assisting.

Students ages 12 to 20 are eligible, with an emphasis on grades nine through 12, though exceptional eighth grade students will be considered. Students at community colleges without ensemble programs are eligible provided they are within the age range. All students must be members in good standing of their school band programs, with an exception made for students attending schools without band programs.

All members are encouraged to take private lessons and the registration fees for private lessons offered through the Community School of Music (CSMA) will be waived for members of the Youth Wind Ensemble.
