World Book Night USA 2012 @ University of Redlands
WBN’s book-giving event is meant to…
- spread the love of reading to new/light readers and to those with limited access to books.
- get 50,000 volunteer givers nationwide to distribute 1,000,000 books to others in their communities on (or around) April 23, 2012.
- empower individuals to go out into their communities to distribute books to others and make person-to-person contact. This means giving books out to people we don’t know or people we may know and are infrequent readers.
- celebrate UNESCO’s World Book Day, which is marked each year on April 23rd in memory of Cervantes, Shakespeare, El Inca, and other prominent authors who were born or had died on this day.
University of Redlands’ Armacost Library is a registered World Book Night USA pick-up location. Armacost Library and Campus Diversity & Inclusion (CDI) invite students, faculty, staff, and administrators to volunteer to be book givers!
What do potential book-givers need to do with WBN books on April 23, 2012?
Give out the books, to one person at a time. Now that the WBN-USA sign-ups have ended and notifications of giver statuses have gone out, there's really only one thing left to do--party!
- Attend the WBN giver party hosted by CDI and Armacost Library on April 16, 2012! This is a good time for WBN givers to meet other givers, ask questions about WBN’s process, and pick up the books you’ve signed up to distribute on April 23rd. Exact location and time is yet to be determined. Light refreshments will be provided. Stay tuned!
Dates to remember:
April 16, 2012: Pick up your WBN books and attend the WBN-USA giver party hosted by University of Redlands Armacost Library and Campus Diversity & Inclusion. Exact time and location will be announced shortly.
April 23, 2012: Go out into your community and hand out a book to a person, one at a time.
