Mortar Board Initiation

Mortar Board

The University of Redlands WEBS chapter of Mortar Board recently held an initiation ceremony for students who studied abroad in the spring and for President Ralph W. Kuncl and his wife, Nancy.

Mortar Board is a national honor society that recognizes outstanding students dedicated to scholarship, leadership and service. The WEBS (Wisdom, Excellence, Belief, and Service) Chapter came into existence in 1955, which was also the first year that the Mortar Board Professor of the Year honor was awarded.

During the Sept. 14 initiation ceremony, the Chapel Singers sang two songs, and the new initiates signed a membership roster and received Mortar Board pins and certificates of membership. Each initiate lit a candle and blew it out following the recitation of a poem called “The Torch.”
