President's Honor Recital 2013

The University of Redlands will present the Annual President’s Honor Recital at 2 p.m. on March 24 at the Memorial Chapel. Since 1983, this recital has provided a platform for top performers in the University of Redlands School of Music.

About 25-30 undergraduate and/or graduate students audition to perform in the President’s Honor Recital. Any University student taking private lessons in voice or on any instrument with a School of Music faculty member is eligible to compete. 
The six students who will perform and be presented with awards are Sophia Ohanian (piano), Janie Vail (soprano), Candice Broersma (clarinet), Spencer Baldwin (double bass), Michelle Chavez (flute) and David Mantle (vibraphone).

Other prize winners include Anthony Ribaya (piano), Luke Hilland (horn), Soyoung Kim (coloratura soprano) and Kelsey Broersma (saxophone).

Auditions were held in December 2012 and January 2013. The entire School of Music and President Ralph Kuncl served as judges.

Thurber, an English bulldog, is the University's mascot.

He is named after Clarence Howe Thurber, University president from 1933-37.
