Dr. Keays, a Redlands faculty member since 1972, was named the recipient of an Outstanding Teaching award for 1999-2000.  Dr. Keays studied horn with Thomas Holden and is a member of the Redlands Symphony Orchestra.  He is a former member of the U.S. Army Band, the University of Illinois Faculty Brass Quintet and Illinois Contemporary Chamber Players.  His publications include "The Renaissance Band Book" and "A German Renaissance Madrigal Suite."  His band transcriptions include Death and Transfiguration by Strauss and The Triumph of Saint Joan by Dello Joio.  He regularly writes program notes for the Redlands Symphony and arranges music for the Feast of Lights.  Dr. Keays has had a lifelong interest of the music and orchestrations of Hector Berlioz.
