POSITION:   Stockroom Assistant

DEPARTMENT:   Science Center

MONTHS/HOURS:   10 month/40 hours per week, mid August to mid June

STARTING SALARY RANGE:   $12.03 per hour

GRADE:   "1"

POSITION AVAILABLE:   Immediately

INTRODUCTORY PERIOD:   Six Months

DESCRIPTION:   Assists the Science Lab Coordinator and Science Lab Assistant by providing day-to-day assistance in preparation for Biology and Chemistry Labs.

Duties include but are not limited to the following: 

•Assists Science Lab Coordinator and Science Lab Assistant.

•Organizes and re-shelves glassware and chemicals.

•Works in stockroom.

•Assists in setting up equipment for labs.

•Assists in chemical waste handling.

•Performs routine data entry into computer software program.

•Cleans and stocks glassware.

•Assists in preparing chemical solutions for labs. 

•Adheres to all safety and housekeeping policies and procedures. 

•Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related duties as needed.

•Performs other duties and special projects as assigned or directed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:   Position requires a high school diploma or equivalent plus one (1) year of additional course work in college level science to include one (1) year each of biology and chemistry, or an equivalent combination thereof. Successful candidate will have a working knowledge of chemistry and biology; a basic solution making experience in both chemistry and biology, and knowledge of laboratory procedures. Bachelor’s degree in some field of science is a plus. Must be computer literate, successful candidate should possess good communication and interpersonal skills, be knowledgeable of common equipment used in biology and chemistry programs and have a good understanding and knowledge of hazardous waste and safety regulations and practices. Mechanical aptitude and resourcefulness are essential. On occasions may be requested to do light shopping for lab supplies. Must competently interact with a culturally and ethnically diverse population of students, faculty, administrators and staff.
