DESCRIPTION:   Repairs, maintains, and installs both manual and automatic irrigation systems and related equipment on campus grounds, and other University-owned property.

•Read and understands irrigation plans for installation, repairs and retrofits.

•Perform back flushing of sand filter system

•Perform irrigation checks to make sure all water management practices will most efficiently meet the individual requirements of the turf and landscape areas.

•Assists contractors in locating irrigation main lines and laterals. 

•Responsible for shutting off systems as requested for special events.

•Experienced in electrical trouble shooting.

•Assists in set-up for University special events; may include moving of furniture, supplies and clean-up of trash, planter beds, and drainage maintenance.

•May be required to respond to emergency call-backs, as needed.

•Adheres to all safety and housekeeping policies and procedures.

•Performs other duties and special projects as assigned or directed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:   Position requires a high school diploma or equivalent with minimum of one (1) to three (3) years experience in a similar position with experience in all phases of irrigation systems. Selected candidate will possess considerable knowledge of both manual and automatic irrigation systems and design. They should have basic knowledge of the operation of a line trencher, tractors and other large pieces of equipment. Must be able to work independently and possess good problem-solving skills. Selected candidate will possess good verbal and written communication skills. Selected candidate must possess the ability to interpret and apply a variety of rules, regulations and procedures. Selected candidate must have the ability to competently interact with a culturally and ethnically diverse population of students, faculty and staff. Position requires the physical agility to perform the required duties in a safe and productive manner and to utilize and operate a variety of specialized tools and equipment. Selected candidate will possess a valid driver's license and must demonstrate a good driving record with a current DMV printout after offer of employment.
