DESCRIPTION: The Media and Visual Culture Studies Program at the University of Redlands welcomes applications for a Lossett Visiting Assistant Professorship, initially for one year but with the possibility of renewal for a second, to begin in the Fall 2017 semester.
The University of Redlands is a private, comprehensive liberal arts institution located 60 miles east of Los Angeles in a town of 70,000. The campus is surrounded by orange groves and sits at the base of the San Bernardino Mountains, one hour from the coast, and 40 miles west of Palm Springs.
The department seeks candidates who have experience in working with students from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. Candidates who apply are asked to identify their strengths and experiences in assisting diverse student populations to accomplish curricular goals. POSITION CRITERIA: The successful candidate, who must have PhD at the time of appointment, will teach six classes in the Media and Visual Culture program. Four will be core courses – two sections of the introductory course; a writing seminar, covering various idioms of media writing and scholarship, and the junior seminar, which provides a theoretical/ methodological preparation for the senior thesis. The two remaining courses will be in the candidate’s area of specialization. There will be some expectation of advising and other service to a relatively new, growing program. Field of expertise is open, but preference given to those working on international and global media cultures, especially in the global south.
