| Dr. Murphy has been active as an elementary, secondary and college music educator for more than 20 years, including extensive classroom, instrumental and vocal music teaching in the public schools. A faculty member at Redlands since 1993, he has studied jazz and improvisation with Hal Crook, Malcolm Chrupcala and Dave Hanson and has performed with Don Stratton, Herb Pomeroy and Milt Hinton. Dr. Murphy has received grants to train music educators in classroom allocations of synthesizers and computers. Additionally, he has received University of Maine System and Annenberg/Corporation for Public Broadcasting Project grants for the design of multimedia class piano software. He is an author and clinician on music education and music technology with recent publications and presentations for the Music Educators National Conference, the International Association of Jazz Educators and the Tenth International Conference of Technology in Education at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. |
