Academic Interests and Areas of Expertise
I am most interested in the development of young voices and the building of musical expertise in the college age student. My areas of expertise range from classical vocal art music, vocal pedagogy, Irish folk music for women’s voices and the ramifications of movement and how it relates to music making and performance practices.
Ms. Gee has been a soloist throughout the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, where she has performed such work as Menotti’s “The Telephone,” Mozart’s “Der Schauspieldirektor,” and “Coronation Mass,” Resphigi’s “Laud to the Nativity,” Handel’s “Messiah,” Pergolesi’s “Stabat Mater” and Britten’s “Noye’s Fludde.” She has also been a member of Disneyland’s “Dicken’s Carolers” and has been seen on NBC as a soloist in its “Tribute to John Wayne.” Patricia can also be heard as a featured soloist demonstrating 20th Century vocal techniques in the accompanying CD for the book "The 21st Century Voice" by Michael Edward Eggerton (Scarecrow Press, 2003).
In addition to performing, Ms. Gee has been music director for opera and musical theatre performances throughout California and in Italy with the Operafestival di Roma. She can also be seen delivering informative lectures for organizations such as the California Music Educators Association. Further, she has made an extensive study of Irish folk music specifically for women’s voices and is a regular judge for many vocal competitions, including the LA Music Center Spotlight Awards.
Primarily, however, Ms. Gee is known for her innovative and energetic teaching style. She was the recipient of the Excellence in teaching Award from the University of Redlands Friends of Music. Her students are presently singing in international and national opera house and are also teaching at the university, college and public school levels throughout the country.
