CSMA Summer Workshops

Summer workshop for Preparatory Strings, Ensemble Chamber Orchestra and Youth Symphony

July 9-22, 2012

The Community School of Music and the Arts is proud to offer this outstanding and rewarding program for young chamber orchestra and symphony musicians. Now in its twelfth year, this workshop includes full daily sessions of courses and ensembles for all chamber strings, winds, brass and percussion and Youth Symphony.

The workshop runs from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily. A minimum of four years playing experience is required for Chamber Orchestra participants. The Youth Symphony auditions will be held for advanced students with six or more years playing experience.

The 10-day, Monday through Friday Summer Workshop offers exceptional instruction in the areas of music history, theory, composition and performance focusing on specific chamber music literature, technique and ensemble performance. Workshop participants may choose from a variety of electives: Beginning Conducting, Master classes, Ear Training, Performance Anxiety, and Wind & Brass Ensemble..

The Summer Workshop will conclude with a Chamber Music Concert on Friday, July 20 at 6:00 p.m. in the Frederick Loewe Performance Hall. The Chamber Orchestra and Youth Symphony Concert will be on Sunday, July 22 at 3 p.m. in University Hall. Both performances are free and open to the public.

The University of Redlands Community School of Music and the Arts will offer a 10-day Preparatory Strings Ensemble from July 11- 24, Monday-Friday, for string players (violin, violin, cello and double bass) with a minimum of 1-2 years playing experience in the Fine Arts building room 107.

Students will participate daily from 9 a.m. - noon in the Preparatory Stings Ensemble, Music Appreciation and Music Theory classes. The Preparatory Strings Workshop will conclude with a Chamber Music performance on Friday, July 20 at 6 pm in the Frederick Loewe Performance Hall in Watchorn Hall and a final summer workshop joint performance with the Chamber Orchestra and Youth Symphony on Sunday, July 22 at 3 p.m. in University Hall.

Early registration is available until May 15th. Application deadline and balance due: June 30, 2012.

Early registration fee is $200 for Preparatory Strings and $400 for Chamber Orchestra/Youth Symphony.

For applications received after May 15, 2012 the fee is $225 for Preparatory Strings and $425 for Chamber Orchestra/Youth Symphony.

Applications received by May 15 are guaranteed placement in Electives and Chamber Music classes.

Auditions are not required for Preparatory Strings students.
