Angel Blue (BM Performance, soprano, '05)
American soprano Angel Blue's voice has been recognized for its shining and agile upper register, "smoky" middle register, and beautiful timbre. She has performed internationally and won numerous awards such as Operalia. Blue received a Masters of Music degree in Opera Performance from UCLA and a Bachelors of Music from the University of Redlands. She is also alumni to the Los Angeles County High school for the Arts where she studied both voice and classical piano. Miss Blue was a member of the Domingo-Thornton Young Artist at Los Angeles Opera where her company debut was as Musetta in La Boheme conducted by Placido Domingo.
In the 2008/2009 season, Angel made her debut with the San Francisco Opera Company as Clara in Porgy and Bess, she was the featured soloist with the Valdosta Symphony in Valdosta, Georgia where she sang the soprano role in Arthur Honegger’s King David and also performed with the Korean Symphony Orchestra Germany in Seoul and Busan, Korea. In the 2009/2010 season she was a featured soloist with the Riverside Philharmonic, the Adrian Symphony in Adrian, Michigan, Giro Italia tour with Rossini specialist Alberto Zedda throughout Italy, the Madrilenos por Haiti concert with La Orquesta Clasica de Espana in Madrid, Spain, A Gala Evening with Thomas Hampson in Budapest, Hungary and made her debut at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia as Micaela in Carmen opposite Marcelo Alvarez and Elina Garanca conducted by Zubin Mehta. In the 2010/2011 season she will sing with the Palau de les Arts in Valencia, Spain, Los Angeles Opera, Theatre an der Wien in Wien, Austria, and in Riga, Lativa with the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra. Ms. Blue was a finalist in Operalia, receiving 1st place in the Zarzuela competition, and 2nd place in the Opera competition. She has also received awards from the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, A.E.I.O.U Italian Educators Vocal Competition, the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion’s Emerging Young Entertainers Award, and the Redlands Bowl Competition. Angel has sung the National Anthem for the Border Governor's Conference, hosted by California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, and for the California Women's Conference, hosted by California First Lady Maria Shriver.

Julio Appling (BA Music, double bass, '05)
In his four years at Redlands, Julio served as bassist for the University Jazz Band and University Orchestra, and performed regularly for events on and off campus. Upon graduation he went on to earn his Masters’ degree in Musicology at Bowling Green State University, presenting his thesis research at regional conferences and teaching music history and appreciation courses at Tiffin University and BGSU Firelands.
While in the Midwest Julio joined The Student Loan, a high-energy newgrass group, which has since released two albums and performed extensively the United States. In 2009, the group embarked on a five-week tour of Southeast Asia through Rhythm Road Music Abroad Program sponsored by Jazz at Lincoln Center and the U.S. State department. The tour included concerts and music workshops as well as performances at Jazz at Lincoln Center, the National Geographic Society, and the International Java Jazz Festival.
Still pursuing his interests in higher education, Julio is currently an instructor and IT trainer for Clark College in Vancouver, WA, where he develops technology professional development courses for faculty and staff.
He maintains a regular performance schedule in the Portland area, appearing regularly with The Student Loan and jazz fusion groups Trio Flux and Someday Syndrome. His performance schedule and additional information is available at his website.
