Application Process

  1. The application deadline is December 6, 2013. The following must be submitted by that date: 
    1. Application Form including payment or credit card information
    2. Audition DVD
    3. Supporting Documents
      • Proof of Age
      • Biography
      • Photo
      • Recommendation
  2. Each applicant will receive the following emails from the Competition: a) when application arrives, and b) when application is processed.
  3. Only complete applications will be considered by the Competitor Selection Jury. 
  4. Applicants will be notified of their acceptance/non-acceptance status by email and letter sent no later than January 8, 2014. 
  5. Applicants should retain copies of all materials sent with their applications. The Redlands International Piano Competition accepts no responsibility for lost CDs, DVDs or documents. All application materials become the property of the Competition.

Application Instructions

  1. The application form must be in English and be electronically prepared or typed; hand-written applications will be disqualified.
  2. Application forms may be submitted in one of two ways:
    1. Electronic submission of PDF application form to pianocompetition@redlands.edu
    2. Registered mail, UPS, FedEx, DHL, or other International carrier with tracking numbers mailed to:

Application Form

Audition DVD

  1. The Audition DVD should include the following:
    1. An introduction on camera, stating your name, age, and hometown.
    2. The sonata movement from the solo repertoire requirements.
    3. Two additional solo pieces of contrasting period and style chosen from the competition repertoire requirements.
  2. Print your name on the label of the DVD and include the following on the cover:
    1. Name of Applicant.
    2. Title, number, key, opus, movements of each composition recorded and listed in order of performance on Audition DVD.
    3. Date of Recording (must be recorded after February 14, 2013.)
  3. Other than stopping and starting the camera between pieces, no editing of the audio or video is permitted. Applicants whose videos show evidence of any cuts, splicing, or other alteration within a performance segment will be subject to disqualification.
  4. Place the camera so that your head, hands, and your full range of motion are in the frame at all times.
  5. Audition DVDs must be sent by registered mail or by UPS, FedEx, DHL, or other International carrier with tracking numbers postmarked on or before December 6, 2013.

Supporting Documents

These may be sent electronically or by registered mail. Please see Application Instructions for addresses.

  1. Proof of age (scan of birth certificate, driver’s license, passport, etc)
  2. A current 150 to 300 word biography, sent as Word file
    1. Electronic submission is strongly preferred 
    2. If necessary, this document may be sent with audition DVD 
  3. One (1) color photograph (headshot), sent as a 300dpi JPEG file, minimum size of 4x6 
    1. Electronic submission is strongly preferred
    2. If necessary, this document may be sent with audition DVD
  4. One (1) letter of recommendation from current or recent teacher is required. This letter is to be written on recommender’s letterhead with his/her personal signature and postmarked on or before December 6, 2013.
