John Gann

John Gann received a Bachelor of Music degree in percussion performance from the St. Louis Conservatory of Music and a Master of Music degree in percussion performance from the University of Southern California. Additionally, he holds a California single subject teaching credential with an emphasis in music from California State University, San Bernardino. He has been a member of the percussion section of the San Bernardino Symphony for over twenty years and is a member of the Loma Linda Lyric Symphony, where he serves as principal timpanist. He has performed with many of the professional orchestras in the Inland Empire and Los Angeles area including the Redlands Symphony, Desert Symphony, Orange County Symphony, L.A. Hanmi Opera, Burbank Philharmonic, and the Pasadena Symphony. He has toured with the Western Opera Theatre, which is the touring arm of the San Francisco Opera Company for their production of Carmen. He has performed in the back up orchestras for such artists as Andy Williams, Jose Hernandez’ Mariachi Sol Mexico, Jack Jones, Tennessee Ernie Ford, Eddie Daniels, Tony Martin, Vickie Carr, Rita Coolidge, and many others. With his marimba-harp duo Woodprints, he and harpist Mary Dropkin have been featured as guest artists in recital at the Edward Dean Museum, Spinet, and Compassionate Harps. Dedicated to the musical education of young people, he has served on the board of directors of the Southern California Young Artist Symphony, and is currently the director of vocal and instrumental music at Clement Middle School. He is member of the administrative staff of Arrowbear Music Camp and he is on the faculty of the University Of Redlands Community School Of Music where he maintains an active private teaching studio.
