In The Seagull, a young playwright yearns for new forms of theatre  -  just as Anton Chekhov did in 1895 when he first penned the play.  Though at first an absolute disaster, the play was picked up by director Constantin Stanislavski, whose astounding production led the way to legendary status for the director's Moscow Art Theatre and for Chekhov's place in the pantheon of playwrights.

A century after The Seagull's creation, the brilliant Tom Stoppard offered a new translation that premiered at New York's Central Park Delacorte Theatre with an all-star cast.

"Stoppard's recent translation of The Seagull has given us the achingly sad and escapably tragic world that the great Russian playwright envisioned.  The work overtakes us . . . Emotions flow like tears."  - NY Daily News
